Inverted-F antennas (IFAs), unlike conformal antennas, protrude into the airstream. This construction is not recommended for supersonic rockets (it has been flight proven up to 250 m/s). The advantage of IFAs is that they radiate strongly back along the axis of the vehicle, resulting in greater signal strength when the vehicle is viewed directly from the rear. They require a metallic airframe skin to operate and are ideal for sounding rocket telemetry.
Suitable for:
- Telemetry / telecommand
- Flight termination
